A Glimpse of Washington DC Chinatown

How ironic that Chinatown restaurants not serving Chinese food were also the catalyst of Chinatown gentrification that pushed legacy Chinese mom and pop restaurants to close. I have nothing but crocodile tears for them as they took away the livelihood of many mom and pop Chinese restaurants (who operated on very low margins) by accelerating the hollowing out of a once thriving Chinese-American community..

Capital One Arena killed Chinatown as it hollowed out the community where Chinatown now only exists in name. The best Public Policy would be to welcome back Chinese-Americans to rebuild Chinatown so that it could be a win-win solution. Capital One Arena should be turned into public housing with a community center that would attract Chinese-Americans back. Chinese-Americans are famous for converting something out of nothing.
