Ba Xian Guo: A type of dried fruit snack traditionally made with Chayote, with several Chinese herb stuffed inside , including 陳皮(dried mandarin peel), 甘草 (liquorice), 半夏(pinellia ternata), etc. However some Ba Xian Guo is now made with Grapefruit instead of Chayote to reduce the cost of production. Ba Xian Guo appears in dark brown (nearly black), often cut into little cubes as a snack. It has a strong destinctive minty sweet taste. Mostly taken as a remedy for cough. Level: 3 This term is used in both Cantonese and Mandarin/Standard written Chinese. |
