Middle Chinese syllables with entering tones and unvoiced initials have a dark entering tone. Cantonese has two levels of dark entering tones: high and low. Usually, syllables with short vowels have a high dark entering tone and syllables with long vowels have a low dark entering tone (下陰入, tone 8).
