low () dark () entering () tone, referring to tone 8 (or 3 with a final stop consonant) in Cantonese

Also called 中入. Middle Chinese syllables with entering tones and unvoiced initials have a dark entering tone. Cantonese has two levels of dark entering tones: high and low. Usually, syllables with short vowels have a high dark entering tone (上陰入, tone 7) and syllables with long vowels have a low dark entering tone.
