|
extremely embarrassing; commit a breach of etiquette; cut a sorry figure [literal] trousers slip while carrying a coffin - a disgrace to the dead This is the first part of a two-part allegorical saying that has 失禮死人 (a disgrace to the dead) as the second part.
Both 失禮 and 死人 have double meanings. 失禮 can mean "embarrassing" as well as "disgrace"; 死人 can be used as an adverb of degree that means "extremely", apart from used as a noun "the dead". Hence, "extremely embarrassing". |
