Guangdong is the southern-most province of China, barring the island of 海南, which was once part of Guangdong. The abbreviation for the province is 粵 and its capital city is Guangzhou/Canton (廣州). This province has the greatest concentration of Cantonese speakers, although other dialects, e.g., Hakka and Teochew, are also spoken. The name 廣東 itself comes from an abbreviation of 廣南東路.
