Extra Food Notes!

粥 is a type of rice gruel which is often eaten for breakfast.  It can contain fish or meat but is commonly served plain, in which case it is called 白飯粥 or just 白粥.

糯米飯 is a delicious dish, containing dried prawns, chinese mushrooms and meat such as salty duck and slices of Chinese beef sausages.

粽 are incredibly tasty (and filling) dumplings containing rice, meat, mung beans and vegetables. They are wrapped tightly in leaves and boiled.

Character Analysis

雲 = cloud  吞 = swallow

腸 = intestines, bowels (the white, flat, tubular noodles that are 腸粉 are somewhat intestinal in look, and are often stuffed with extra food such as fried pastry, hence the descriptive name <grin!> )
