Note: The Cantonese meaning of 'bumpkin' originates from a highly popular TV series (1979) in HK called The Good, The Bad and The Ugly (中人), which featured a character named . In the series, this character was a country bumpkin who had just emigrated from China mainland to HK. Since then, the name stuck with the 'bumpkin' connotation and was first applied to mainland immigrants to HK. Later it was also applied to HK immigrants to the mainland and Canada.
