to confess without being pressured; to reveal the truth without being asked; to let out a secret unknowingly [lit] A ghost slaps the back of one's head This expression is the first part of a 歇後語 with 不打自招 as the unspoken part. Folklore says that a person would reveal the truth if a ghost slaps the back of his head.
