come to nothing; falling apart; all dispersed [literal] Mr Deaf burns a firecracker This is the first part of a two-part allegorical saying that has all scattered (散晒) as the hidden part. A deaf person cannot hear the sound of a firecracker explosion. He can only see the scattered wrapping papers.
